Selling Your Artwork on HartFinds: Information & Process

An exciting new addition to the David Hart brand, HartFinds is a cutting-edge platform designed to help you sell investment artwork quickly, securely, and at minimal cost. With just a 10% commission and a $19 listing fee, you can list and sell your artwork through a trusted company that prioritises both fair pricing and authenticity.

Why Sell with HartFinds?

Selling art through traditional methods can be slow and costly. With many galleries closing in recent years, there are few galleries that accept consigned work. Other options such as eBay can lack the authenticity guarantees that most buyers require, while auction houses often sell at 50% or more below retail value and charge high fees for selling as well as an expensive buyer’s premium charge.

HartFinds offers a fairer alternative:

  • Only 10% commission (compared to 20–50% at galleries and auctions)
  • A higher return potential—we recommend pricing at 20 - 40% below retail for a faster sale, meaning you could earn up to 30% more than you would with an auction house.
  • Keep your artwork until it sells—no need to send it away in advance
  • Hassle-free shipping options—self-manage or let us handle everything
How It Works

HartFinds is an "eBay-style" platform, where you can list your artwork using one of three selling methods. All works listed must be exclusive to HartFinds:

  • Buy It Now – Set a fixed price for an instant sale
  • Make an Offer – Allow buyers to negotiate
  • Timed Auction – Let buyers bid.
Buy It Now

Set a fixed price you are happy to sell your painting for. It is recommended that you price the painting 20 – 40% less than valued price.

The listing will stay live for a period of 6 months and will be automatically removed from the website at the end of this time. After this, if it has not sold you can apply again for either “Make and Offer” or “Timed Auction”.

Anytime within the 3 to 6-month period, you can request for it to be changed over to Make an Offer or the Timed Auction.

Make an Offer

This allows the buyer to negotiate, you will need to let us know what your lowest price will be so the system will automatically reject any offers less than this amount. It is highly recommended that you pay to have the value of the painting included so the perceived value increases the potential of higher bids.

Timed Auction

A timed auction is a type of auction where items are available for bidding over a set period, with all bids submitted online and the auction platform automatically records bids until the specified closing time.

The auction begins at a scheduled time, and participants can place bids at any point during the bidding period. Each item has a set closing time. Bidders can monitor items themselves and increase their bids if necessary. When the timer for an item ends, the highest bid wins the item.

There is no reserve, so as the seller you must work out what your lowest price is that you will be happy with, but remember we recommend the starting price to be 40% less than the value or you can do it even less and hope this will create a bidding frenzy.

Steps to Sell Your Artwork

1. Listing Your Artwork
📸 Take High-Quality Photos
  • Photograph the entire front of the artwork, including the frame, in good lighting.
  • Ensure the image is square and clear, avoiding reflections (for glass-covered works, place the painting outdoors, facing up toward the sky, avoiding shadows).
  • Take a photo of the entire back of the framed artwork, even if it appears blank.
  • You can capture extra photos showing defects, inscriptions, catalogue numbers, labels and even purchase receipts or valuations. All this information helps with pricing and provenance of your artwork. Any personal information from purchase receipts will not be posted online.
  • Make sure you take a clear photo as square as possible so that buyers can see the most amount of detail. Remember, someone will be purchasing based on the photo you take, so make sure you get the best image possible to increase your chances of selling your artwork. We can crop your images once we receive your listing.
