David’s fascination with dragonflies and ants was inspired by his father Pro’s passion for the subjects. As a child, he spent countless hours sketching these now-iconic creatures and observing his father at work. In March 2006, Pro Hart passed away at his home in Broken Hill, NSW, after battling Motor Neurone Disease. Shortly before his death, David promised to preserve his father’s secret techniques and distinctive style used in the Dragonfly paintings—an oath that has since driven him to evolve the series into his own unique artistic expression.
Renowned Australian artist David Hart was born and raised in Broken Hill, where he first discovered his passion for painting while working alongside his father, the late Pro Hart (M.B.E.). Beginning his artistic journey at just 16, David has built a distinguished 35-year career, earning international recognition and becoming one of Australia’s most highly collected artists.
