Jack Absalom Original

The Plains Turkey - Oil Painting

Jack Absalom (1927–2019), a renowned Australian artist, was born in Port Augusta, South Australia, and raised across the vast Nullarbor Plain, where he developed an intimate understanding of the outback that would later define his work. Largely self-taught, Absalom discovered painting later in life in the early 1970s, quickly establishing a distinctive style inspired by firsthand experience of Australia’s harsh and beautiful interior.

Beginning his artistic journey in his forties, Absalom went on to build a remarkable career as both an artist and outback personality, becoming a founding member of the legendary Brushmen of the Bush alongside figures such as Pro Hart. His work gained national and international recognition, with exhibitions raising significant funds for charity and securing his place as one of Australia’s most widely recognized landscape painters.

Through bold use of colour, light, and expansive composition, Absalom’s paintings capture the vastness, heat, and raw beauty of the Australian outback. Working primarily in oils, his landscapes are grounded in lived experience, shaped by years as a bushman, traveller, and survival expert, resulting in works that feel both authentic and deeply atmospheric. Using expressive brushwork and strong tonal contrasts, his art continues to resonate with collectors for its powerful sense of place, movement, and connection to the land.

I recently sold a Pro Hart painting on and They handled all aspects of the sale including transport of the painting from my home, located outside Queensland, to the buyer. The service they provided was exemplary. Very professional service. Highly recommended.

Pam McEvoy

I sold my Pro Hart from my home in Europe after owning it for well over 30 years. I was quite cautious about such a long distance arrangement but the gallery was very effective and friendly. Christine offered personal and professional service and guidance. I am also happy that it could be returned to Australia and handled by the Hart family.- the best solution really. Happy to recommend!

Secutary Ihtan

A big shout out of thanks and appreciation to Christine and the team who advised us well as we prepared to sell a Pro Hart original: their expert advice, followed trustingly, was rewarded with a prompt sale at a reasonable price.
